Yes, literally 2 minutes is what Lily gave me on today’s shoot. I could take a screenshot of the image info just so you’d believe me, but I also have about 2 minutes for this blog post before one of my munchkins wakes up, so you’ll have to take my word for it!
The reason I’m posting is a few things:
1) It’s Valentine’s Day!! And I wanted to celebrate my little love bugs (though I only got one to participate in my 2-minute shoot).
2) I found this tutu that I received years ago from an Etsy shop named “Little Creek Boutique” (who no longer seems to be there, unfortunately, or I’d love to give them a shout-out). It’s perfect for Lily and I was just dying to do a shoot with her in it!
3) Since this was such a fast one, I thought it would be a good opportunity to show you what you can do in just two minutes. When I photograph my own children, it’s not like I have the luxury of a full shoot with them. I’m a mom, just like you, and they give me 30 second bursts (or, let’s be realistic…10 second bursts) and I take what I can get! In this case, Lily gave me these two minutes and I am grateful for it.
So here are the results and I’m also including a pull-back photo from behind-the-scenes.
For the backdrop, I used a seamless white paper that I cut into a size that would fit in my living room, but you could try butcher paper or even an ironed bedsheet (but who has time to iron a bedsheet??). You don’t need a fancy backdrop stand…you can definitely just tape the paper / sheet / whatever to your dining room chairs. Again, this is quick’n'dirty so I don’t want you to get too picky.
For the “decor” (and I can barely use that word, even in quotations, with a straight face), my friend Mary helped me draw hearts while the kids were playing (read: drooling all over something nearby) and then I found that they were too light in the background so I quickly filled them in with markers. If I planned this more, I would recommend using a thick red paint that could really be bold in the background. But…this did the trick for today.
